What Does All This Writing Mean?!
All this writing means that I know at least a little bit about web sites. You don’t need to know any of this, really. Just call me or email me and I’ll explain it in human, normal terms. Without all the unnecessary jargon I wrote below this.
XHTML & CSS
XHTML & CSS are two of the chief tools for Web Authoring. XHTML is the page content, with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) being the visual & layout information.
Having the content and appearance seperate is a good idea for many reasons. This makes pages more modular and easier to maintain and edit.
Simply put, CSS & XHTML are Style & Substance.
About Validation & Testing
Testing & Validation are two of the most important, but often ignored facets of making Web Sites. Testing a page in multiple browsers is extremely important. If a page doesn’t display correctly, you could be losing as much as a third of your visitors. For a business, this is a huge concern.
“Validation” means ensuring that a page is “valid”, meaning free of errors & problems. An invalid page relies on the browser’s error correction, causing the page to be slower or appear broken. Search engines also favor valid web pages.
Small Business
Small Businesses are among the beneficiaries of the modern Internet. A website can reach as far & wide as a print, television or radio advertisement, often for a fraction of the price, with relatively small recurring cost.
Personal Pages
A personal page can be a huge asset for many people. Having a portfolio online can only raise your profile. Personal/Portfolio Pages & Blogs are particularly suitable for Artists, Photographers, Writers & Actors.
Blogs
Blogs are amongst one of the most valuable parts of the Internet, allowing anyone to become a journalist or writer. A well-designed and written blog can amass hundreds of thousands of visitors every day. Some writers launch their careers from simple blogs.
The two most popular Blog “engines” are Wordpress & Blogger. Both are easy to maintain, and offer a free service to test out.

There’s literally thousands of companies offering a variety of hosting packages and deals. Picking the appropriate level of service can be confusing. The “right” deal depends on what you need your page to do, and how much traffic you can expect.
Corporate Homepages
Large businesses can gain a considerable advantage from a Web presence. With the correct content and branding, a Web Site can help a business expand rapidly. A Web Site can distinguish a business from it’s competitors.
Site Redesign
Many people and organizations have existing pages. If your page is derelict or unmaintained, it may be time for a refresh. Some older pages display incorrectly in modern browsers or just look dated. An updated, modern page gives a far better impression.
